<description>The University of Sydney Union lacked ownership over the range services and events it provided to students. The challenge was to increase recognition and understanding of USU as the provider of this vast range of benefits.

Development of a modernised, friendly logomark, visual language and tone of voice helped to bring a likeable, familiar personality to the Union. This was brought to life in corporate collateral and environments, clubs &#38; societies sub brands and a monthly magazine, Bull.

The diverse language developed around ‘We are’ helped the union to speak about their multitude of services without confusing their brand essence. Instead of being associated with one narrow agenda (student politics), they became a much better rounded brand offering advocacy, entertainment, social and support services.

<description>Microsoft is moving to a completely new way of working, one that uses the most innovative technology and working practices and perfectly showcases how their technology enables customers to fulfill their potential. In the new environment no one has their own desk. Instead people can sit where they want, with whoever they want. It’s a big change and with such a shift in working practices comes a new level of responsibility for every employee. So Microsoft were looking for a way to communicate the ‘drier’ information in a way that wouldn’t alienate staff and would actually make them want to read it and take note.

The solution focuses on the top 10 ‘dos and don’ts’ in the new office space, told through a set of office characters that we’ve all encountered at some point or another. You know the guy that talks on the phone too loudly? The girl that never cleans up after herself? The one that always has the lunch that stinks? They’re all to be found in here! Talking to staff in such a light and humorous way resulted in a piece that’s engaging, fun to read and memorable.

<description>Expressive branding and design does not normally feature highly with organisations that work within construction, project management and environmental fitouts. Most firms are happy to include average photography with a boring dialogue and assume that past credentials will simply suffice, so typically as businesses grow, brand lags behind.

ISIS recognised the need to reflect the very dynamic nature of the work in their portfolio, and the commercial success that their environments have brought for their clients, and for their own business. Realising that brand would enable them to play a leadership role in this very competitive marketplace, the brand needed to present their credentials in a dynamic and relevant way.

ISIS accepted an identity that is able to express itself with the same degree of diversity as the projects the firm takes on and completes. The concept of the window or lens to the future proves ISIS with the opportunity to tailor prospectuses, signal their intent onsite and show the transformation at work which is at the very heart of the brand strategy.

<description>Synonymous with elegance and style, Barney Martin Hairdressing is well respected in the hair and fashion industry as an innovative and creative salon. Located in a heritage building in Surry Hills, the Victorian architecture called for an edgy, contemporary influence to reflect Barney’s cutting edge approach to his work.

Using the interior walls and windows, we transformed the salon into a continually evolving exhibition space. The graphic pieces were updated every 4-8 months, to reflect the fast pace of the fashion industry.

The excitement of the ever changing environment created a strong talking point for both the hair and fashion industry. The edgy style worked to re-inforce Barney Martin as an industry leader whose interest in creativity extended way beyond the expected.

<description>In collaboration with Spicers Paper, Souther Colour Printing and eleven Australian design studios, Landor has created a 2010–11 Fiscal year calendar titled: Corroboree.

The word ‘corroboree’ means traditional meeting that celebrates individual gifts, skill, and ownership. This project is a corroboree of the Australian design landscape, inspired by Landor’s commitment to the craft of design and our belief that collaboration can only make our work better and braver. The work captured in these pages is intended to celebrate the skills of Australian designers, and capture the true spirit of design; to evoke thought, to inspire vision or to simply be beautiful. Enjoy our corroboree.

Collaborators: Finn Creative, Frost, 3 Deep, Clinton Duncan, Mash, Mark Gowing, Saatchi Design, David Pidgeon, Naughtyfish, Eskimo Design, Moffitt Moffitt

<description>Landor Sydney is fortunate enough to work with a number of small, local clients. The work we develop for them however, is often only seen by a limited number of people and not brought to the attention of a global audience. We saw the opportunity to create an online space that would capture this work and also provide a platform for us to showcase our internal initiatives, sharing the incredible creativity of the Sydney office with a wider audience.

Within the design industry Landor is often seen as a large, corporate and unadventurous agency. This was the perfect opportunity for us to present Landor as the creative community we are. Running with pioneer Grace Hoppers’ inspirational words “ask for forgiveness not permission”, a select few designers within the studio created two separate online blogs: Level 11 &#38; The Foyer. Being located on the eleventh floor of a Sydney office building, we couldn’t resist but title our main blog Level 11 for its uniqueness which in turn reflected the simplicity of the logomark.

Level 11 has become a place where we capture the creativity of the Landor Sydney studio and others have the opportunity to see our passion come alive. Level 11 has allowed us to begin a successful two way conversation with a global audience and has evolved into a creative destination, especially to younger emerging designers. Free of client briefs and commercial restrictions The Foyer has become the playground for Landor creatives. Here we create our own content while challenging and inspiring each other. Most importantly it promotes the freedom of creative expression which makes Landor a richer and more inspiring place to work.

<description>The Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) is
the central body for professional graphic designers in
Australia, which works on increasing awareness and
importance of graphic design in business, education
and culture, through a program of awards, exhibitions,
seminars and activities for members.

As a not-for-profit body, budgets are tight and over
time the communications material had become
lacklustre and therefore events were poorly attended.

Our aim was to signal AGDA’s commitment to great
design, but not follow any particular house style. Each
piece of communication is ideas driven and seeks to
reflect the personality of the speaker, nature of the
event and to inspire the design community to attend
and support the organisation.

<description>Melbourne is a dynamic, progressive city, internationally recognized for its diversity, innovation, sustainability, and livability. The City of Melbourne Council supports the city’s world-class offerings, represents it nationally and internationally, and ensures it remains a preeminent Australian center for culture, arts, dining, entertainment, education, and shopping. Since implementing its previous identity 15 years ago, Melbourne has experienced significant change. As a result, the Council had accumulated a range of isolated logos for various services, which had become increasingly difficult and costly to manage. The fragmentation of Melbourne’s identity meant equity was driven away from the core brand, and the Council realized that it needed a long-term solution.

The City of Melbourne Council asked Landor to develop a cohesive brand strategy and new identity system. The challenge was to reflect Melbourne’s cool sophistication on the world stage, capture the passion of its people, and provide the city with a unified, flexible, and future-focused image. The new identity needed to overcome political complexities, improve the cost-effectiveness of managing the brand, and unite the disparate range of entities (including the Council, the city of Melbourne’s destination brand, and an ever-growing portfolio of different initiatives, programs, services, events, and activities).

We built the branding program based on the results of a thorough audit of Melbourne’s various identities and its long-term sustainability and strategic plans. The audit assessed public opinion and interviewed stakeholders who included local government officials, business owners, and community representatives. At the heart of the new design, the bold “M” presents a full expression of the identity system—immediately recognizable and as multifaceted as the city itself: creative, cultural, sustainable. A celebration of diversity and personal interpretation that is both future-proof and iconic.

<description>Each year Spicers Paper sends out a calendar as a piece of design that not only promotes different papers throughout the year, but equally expresses its commitment to the design industry in Australia. Whether in the name of beauty, nostalgia or practicality, the items we display on our four walls say something about each and every one of us. Seen through the eyes of four designers and four photographers, WALL pays homage to these wall displays. The calendar is made up of a series of posters: each season has a typographic poster along with 3 photographic month posters. The entire piece was a set of posters, left loose, unbound, and folded down and packed between 2 embossed, hand numbered pieces of boxboard, held together with a rubber band.
